Abstract
Mathematical programming models applied to agricultural planning are reviewed. Attention is paid to the models used for evaluating agri-environmental measures including organic farming and integrated farming to mitigate environmental degradation. After clarifying the characteristics of mathematical programming for cropping decisions and fertilizer combinations, the evaluation of agri-environmental policy is discussed. Farm- and regional-level models for analyzing the environmental problems such as nitrate issues and pesticide contamination are studied. Implications for constructing integrated evaluation models are also considered.
