To effectively dissemination energy-conservation measures into the commercial sector, the understanding of the structure of energy use is crucial. We surveyed monthly energy consumption of small retails and restaurants and analyzed the relationship with elements potentially affecting the energy consumption by a multiple regression analysis. We found that for retails the operation of space and energy consuming appliances used for delivering their service (e.g. capacity of lighting and refrigeration showcase) accounts for the variation in the energy consumption. In addition to these factors, the energy consumption of restaurants heavily depends on the number of guests and energy consumption for delivering their service per guest.
