This study aims to develop a planning and evaluation method for recently introduced hot water system with boiler of higher heat efficiency. For the effective energy conservation, boiler's operation should be surveyed in the actual usage. This paper showed the result of the gas condensing hot water boiler in 4 detached houses. The heat efficiency varied in each house and additional analysis make clear that the efficiency depends on the character of each short "consumption act (faucet opening)"

Recently, the spread of a domestic small gas engine cogeneration system is advanced. Because the energy-saving effect of cogeneration system changes depending on the balance of the demands for the electric power and heat, the measurement under an actual use condition is important for the evaluation. In this paper, behavior and the actual performance of the gas engine cogeneration system are understood by measurement survey at two real houses and by the demonstration experiment at the experimental house in which the demands for the electric power and heat are reproduced.

In this research, measuring the consumption of the hot-water throughout the year in 171 various households, the hot-water supply concerning bathing was analyzed in detail. At first, frequencies of bathing and heating of bathwater were analyzed concerning seasons and size of households. In the next, behavior of bathing was analyzed in detail. In addition, the tendency of the bathing schedule was analyzed. It was shown that there were some patterns in the bathing style even if the size of households were same.

This report shows the influence of the thermal performance of the bathroom and the bathtub on the temperature change and the bathing patterns based on measured data and a questionnaire results. As a result, it is observed that there is a clear relationship between the thermal performance of bathroom and the terms such as building type. It is also suggested that as for the well- insulated bathtub, temperature drop is suppressed while using the bathtub cover and that the effect was not observed clearly in case without the cover.

This paper describes a calculation model for a natural refrigerative heat pump hot water supply system. Field measurement results are used for determine calculation formulas of COP, supply heat and electric energy consumption. Two calculation cases are provided and their results are compared with field measurement results. Annual average COP of heat pump can be predicted within 1-26% relative error.

The authors carried out measurements about the volume of water supply loads and the consumed amount of electric power by booster pump system in a super high-rise apartment house. Based on the results of measurements, the trend of fluctuation of water consumption and electric power were analyzed. As for the estimation of suitable water supply loads, we applied the Monte Carlo simulation technique. In comparison with the results of simulation and the measurement data, Lie clarified that it was possible to estimate the volume of water supply loads by using the simulation method and suitable parameters.

The authors carried out questionnaires and field measurements on the hot water consumption and the performance for CO2 heat pump water heater in houses. The new type CO2 heat pump systems were set up in 7 houses and the measurement was started from September 2008. In this paper, the performance and characteristics of different heat pump systems were considered based on the results under running condition in middle season and winter. The authors carried out questionnaires and field measurements on the hot water usage and the performance for the CO_2 heat pump (water heater in 14 houses. In this paper, based on the results of the measurements, the behavior of hot water usage and the loads of hot water consumption are analyzed. Especially, as for the loads of reheating bathwater, the relationship between loads and intervals of reheating are shown. And, the authors made a calculation method with calculation process of reheating bathwater. According to the calculation results, some mode of hot water loads for fourteen days were suggested. Finally, the authors carried out experimental evaluation for CO_2 heat pump water heater by using the mode of hot water loads.

This paper describes the performance evaluation of domestic hot water supply systems using a storage tank. First, the specifications of CO_2 heat pump water heaters of the three types. Second, experiments on the hot water consumption and the performance of CO_2 heat pump water heaters were carried out under the various conditions in a temperature-controlled room. The heat pump water heaters are spreading, because a CO2 reduction effect is evaluated. However, as for business use, the spread is slow in comparison with the family use. It depends on problems such as correspondence to the load change or the initial expense. In late years "the hybrid water heater system" which put heat pump water heater and combustion-type water heater together is suggested to solve these problems. In this article, I report it about development and the introduction effect of the hybrid water heater system that effective use is possible.

The gas and the kerosene energy consumption are big for a hot water supply system as well as the percentage of the carbon dioxide emission rate is big in the plumbing system. A possibility of the carbon dioxide reduction by a hybrid hot-water supply system that a HP water heater by electricity is used as a base and big peak hot water load time of the fluctuation uses the boiler and the water heater by the kerosene and the gas and a problem are considered.

This paper describes the performance evaluation of boiler and heat pump hybrid hot water supply system. This system combines the CO2 heat pump water heater with the existing hot water boiler. This aims at reduction of consumption energy and CO2 emissions. As a result of carrying out the simulation of the four cases, it turned out that a hybrid system is energy saving most. CO2 emission is reducible about 35% by using a hybrid system as compared with hot water boiler.

The simulation tool that enables to calculate optimal operating conditions of a heat source system by using mathematical programming was developed. Its outline was shown in previous reports. In this paper the control system for heat source equipments based on optimum operating conditions that are calculated by the simulation tool is shown. Both the effectiveness of the control system and the accuracy of the simulation tool have been verified by comparing data measured at an actual cooling plant and simulations.

In order to conserve energy consumed by heat source equipments for air-conditioning, chillers, cooling/chilled water pumps and cooling tower fans are increasingly equipped with inverter to improve their energy efficiency in recent years. And also, heat recovery is being designed to collect the heat from heated cooling water in order to save energy for heat supply. But the operating method is not established and he effect of heat recovery equipment is not verified either. In the previous paper the optimal operation for simple heat source system is proposed and verified as follow: 1)the development and verification of simulation model, 2)the comparison to ideal optimal operation, 3)dicussion of CT selection in design period. In this research, the optimal operation of a complicated subsystem rth complex cooling towers (CT), and heat recovery equipment studied as follows:1)the development and verification of simulation Rhode 1, for each equipment, 2)the comparison between present operating simulation and cooling-water-temperature-optimized oper-ating simulation with heat recovery, 3)comparison between present operating simulation and ideal-optimized operating simulation without heat recovery, 4)Discussion on the effect of heat recovery by evaluating COP of heating process.

The operation and control strategy in which heat pumps run in full capacity with the shortest runtime principally during the night proved correct even when compared with high performance heat pumps with variable frequency drive are used, with or without thermal storage. Simulation results, where precise equipment characteristic and yearly heating and cooling load are properly calculated using the Micro-HASP/TES for Windows and TES ECO, which were developed by HPTCJ, have shown that drastic reduction of energy consumption will result in by using VFD heat pumps and VWV pump systems for non-thermal storage systems but it is hardly less than those for thermal storage systems. In addition, in case for the thermal orage systems, VFD heat pump applications could rarely prove less energy compared to high performance constant speed eat pump applications.

In the second report, the developed tools were applied to the case study of a model area and it was confirmed that this tools were effective for the energy analysis in the city and regions. Distributed energy systems based on cogeneration have high potential of energy saving due to utilizing waste heat from ,power generators effectively. Some practical designs about distributed energy systems are constructed based on (experimental results by professional system engineers. To spread the concept of distributed energy systems, quantitative design method is needed. Consequently, in this study, the optimization between machinery combination and its operation in order to minimize primary energy consumption is calculated using Genetic Algorithm (GA). Some cases are individual building and some are energy accommodation cases. The calculation results show that GA optimization led objective smaller than experimental designs. Moreover, the result of energy accommodation among buildings is smaller than that of total summation of individual buildings because effective waste heat was utilized among buildings effectively.

This paper reports energy conservation of a heat source system equipped with the latest variable-speed controlled centrifugal chiller Inverter turbo) when the heat source system applies to air conditioning system, which removes sensible and latent heat of cooling load in different processes. When the chilled water is supplied only to remove the sensible heat of cooling load, the chilled water supply temperature can be set higher than that of the conventional air conditioning system. Consequently, the energy conservation effect of heat source system is evaluated quantitatively for the case of higher chilled water temperature using the dynamic simulation method which can calculate the load of sensible and latent heat separately.

This paper have revealed the performance characteristic of the heat source system quantitatively by the simulation results under various operation conditions with wet-bulb temperature and cooling load ratio as parameters within the simplified heat source system. As a result, 'has become possible to show the effective range for the control of each accessory unit and relationship between wet-bulb temperature, load ratio of chiller and its range. Then the simple operation method of heat source system can be proposed and it is determined from wet-bulb temperature and cooling load. And, we installed the operation algorithm to a dynamic heat load simulation method for building and calculated the energy consumption of the heat source system which consists of multiple chillers. As a result, it is confirmed that the operation algorithm is extremely effective in energy conservation.

In this research, the possibility of the heating system using low temperature hot water by air source heat pump was considered. The numerical system simulation was done using LCEM tool for examining the performance of heat pump and air conditioner, and energy conservation effect. As a result, energy consumption was reduced to 81.6% in the case using hot water of 36 degree Celsius compare with the case using hot water of 50 degree Celsius.

This study aims to verify the effectiveness of optimum utilization of residential combined heat and power systems in cold regions for energy conservation. This study aims to develop a future energy system using fuel cell, hydrogen and renewable energy in cold regions. We carried out experiments on characteristics of hydrogen storing alloys. First, we made three kinds of samples whose diameters are different, and carried out the experiments on the hydrogen absorption and desoprption. Secondly, we carried out numerical analyses on residential hydrogen energy systems. Thirdly, we selected predict method and analysed the amount of primary energy reduction when it used fuel cell combined heat and power systems. The results suggest that high energy saving effect can be achieved by this method.

In this study, investigations have been carried out in a detached house with Co-Generation System located in the north of Sendai, Japan. Comparisons have been made to clarify the indoor environment and energy consumption before/after the CGS establishment. Measurement results indicated that indoor air temperature was close before and after. Since CGS was established, the total energy consumption became lower than the same period of the previous year. Gas consumption accounted for about 90% in the total energy consumption. CO_2 emission and energy expense in this detached house reduced to about two third of the total comparing to that in previous year.

The energy efficiency of DHC plants are computed using the data of a Heat Service Utilities Handbook in many cases. However, in the plant which utilizes cogeneration, it may not be computed appropriately. So, in this paper, after arranging the problem in efficiency evaluation for every type of how cogeneration is used, an appropriate valuation method was shown. And plants all over the country were investigated and the trend of the evaluation result of those efficiency was examined.

This paper describes energy conservation effect of using hot water boiler with compact co-generation system. This system was developed to solve low efficiency of boiler at low load. This system can cover hot water supply demand using only waste heat of co-generation system instead of hot water boiler when hot water supply demand is low compared with boiler capacity. Finally, this study demonstrates that primary energy supply is lower with this system than with boiler only.

This paper reports the actual planning and performance result for actual built heat source plant within a large scale multiple usage building located in middle of Tokyo. The plant consists of both electric driven and gas driven heat source equipment with co-generation system and thermal storage system to achieve high energy efficient performance as well as reduction of operation cost.

This report presents the result of measurements on CO2 emission in the University Hospital area to show the effectiveness of the Todai Sustainable Campus Project(TSCP). The data were analyzed to extract the energy consumption for air-conditioning, and the resulting measures to improve the effectiveness of the heat source equipment were verified.

This paper reports the result of measurement of energy consumption in a central AC system in the University of Tokyo. Average load factor is observed at 9.4% and 17.1 % in the cooling and heating seasons, respectively. System simulation by LCEM indicates that cut-down of operating heat sources can lead to increase the load factor and CO2 reduction by 71 ton in summer season.

The high performance heating tower system has been developed for the efficient air conditioning heat source of large scale building. This system is combined with high performance heating tower, screw chiller and control system. In model case simulation, this system will reduce about 30% energy consumption and CO_2 emission compare with gas-fired absorption chiller.

Free cooling operation in which the condenser water flows through more cells of the cooling tower than those corresponding to the rated flow rate leads to less overall electricity consumption in spite of more fan operation. The centrifugal water chillers connected downstream in series to the heat exchanger for free cooling can be specified with more chilled-water flow rate than the rated one for energy saving.

Air-cooled chiller-units are popular facilities of central air conditioning system of office buildings. We applied Sub-cooling system, an energy-saving technology of multiple packaged air conditioning units for buildings, to this facility. This system is not only efficient but also less harmful to air heat exchanger of air-cooled chiller units. We introduced this system to a new building, operated for 4 months, and verified the advanced performance of this system. As a result, it was confirmed that the cooling capability increase by 12-13%, electric power consumption decrease by 12-15% (outdoor air temperature: 32.5〜30℃, cooling load factor: 20〜50%).

Heat pump system's capacity is usually designed using the peak load simulation, however the peak load hardly occurs. Therefore at most time, heat pump is forced to operate inefficiently. This paper proposed the small buffer tank system and shows its effect of saving energy and cutting running cost with the facile estimation tool by steady cooling load simulation. And this paper also shows economical evaluation of the proposed system by the result of benefit by cost.

We showed the partial load characteristics of ASHP and the vertical temperature distribution of the zero energy house in Asahikawa. It was indicated by the numerical simulation that the suitable control of supply water of ASHP and installing a supply air heating unit for ventilation reduce the energy consumption for space heating.
