It goes without saying that it is necessary to find out the original source of spontaneous combustion when it occurred in coal seams.
Up to the present, however the method of detecting the source of spontaneous combustion was left aside in the field of its.study.
In this paper, the writers stated the existence of spontaneous combustion might be simply determined by the obserbation of temperature distribution on coal surfaces, from which results the isothermal line as well as the temperature distribution curve would be obtained, on which basis the formula κ-Δκ=√Δκ2+η2-Δκ was reduced for locating the source of spontaneous combustion in distance from the surface of coal seams.
