The echolocation calls of six bat species inhabiting the Shikoku Mountains were recorded and their sonograms were analyzed. A recording device was installed near the roosts of the bats to record the calls emitted by the free-flying bats. The echolocation calls (CF types) of Rhinolophus ferrumequinum and Rhinolophus cornutus were distinguished from each other based on their differences in the peak frequency (PF) of their scanning calls. Additionally, the scanning echolocation calls (FM types) of 4 species (Myotis bombinus, Myotis macrodactylus, Murina ussuriensis, and Miniopterus fuliginosus) were distinct from each other based on the differences of their values of end frequency, peak frequency, or call duration. These data suggested that the frequency and duration characteristics of the echolocation calls of the six bat species did not differ significantly from those recorded in other area of Japan.
