The objective of this paper is to consider networking of the active vocabulary in Japanese Language. There are readily definable and observable fixed networks or linkages in Japanese vocabulary. Active vocabulary refers to specific phrases found within this network. It is important for intermediate leaners to master specific active vocabulary in order to enrich their production and improve overall fluency. When teaching vocabulary, it is important to make learners understand active vocabulary in its specific context. Moreover, it is suggested that reading aloud is an important technique in teaching active vocabulary. This is especially so to ensure that Chinese-derived characters are read in a Japanese context and not a Chinese one by Chinese learners.
