A-28-year-old Japanese woman presented with a black papule 3×5mm in size on the left buttock that had developed within the preceding 2 years. The lesion was excised under local anesthesia. Light microscopic examination revealed an increased number of melanocytes arranged as solitary units and in nests situated at the dermo-epidermal junction and above it. The melanocytes had abundunt cytoplasms and large nuclei with prominent nucleoli. However, the lesion was symmetrical and well-circumscribed. It was diagnosed as Spitz's nevus and did not recur during a 1 year of follow-up. [Skin Cancer (Japan) 2001; 16: 310-313]
