In Japan many spas have been used for sick person's therapy by hot spring bathing from old time. After World War I,a lot of farmers, fishermen and old people stayed in spas about ten days for relaxation until beginning of the high economic growth period. However, during that time the function of many spas has changed from health to tourist purpose. As a result, underdeveloped health spas still remain in the mountain area of the Tohoku, Joshinetu and Kyushu district. According to sample study of Tamagawa and Namari spas in the Tohoku district, today health spas are generally active in the effect of changes of tourist life style and plays an important role in the person's health preservation. However, problems such as supporting of medical doctor and administration, and conservation of hot spring resources, natural environment, spa landscape with a great deal of atmosphere are still unsolved.
