Water tube tiltmeters are presently operating for continuous observation of ground tilt in the several crustal movement observatories of Tohoku University. In the present paper, static characteristics of the water tube tiltmeter are investigated theoretically and experimentally. It is shown that the experimental results well coincide with the theoretical results. It is found that the displacement of a float for change of the water level increases with increasing diameter of the float for diameters less than about 10 cm.
