It is widely noted that both Thomas More and Thomas Mtinzer are the typical and original socialistic thinkers of the modern world. There are, however, some obvious differences between the millennialism and utopianism(i.e. seriousness and enthusiasm on the one hand, humor and composure on the other hand) that they espoused. What is it that makes it possible to discriminate utopia of Platon and More from the millennialistic historicism?
For the purpose of explicating this theme, several dichotomouscomprehensions of the Utopian mentality are examined in the first place(e. g. theorist-agitator, Wunschraume-Wunschzeiten ).
Secondly, we would pay attention to the consept of “the sacred” in order to go beyond these preceding dichotomies. And as an outcome of this investigation, it would be made clear that the millennialism is a type of “cosmization” (M.Eliade) constituted of “the sacred history”, and the utopianism is a sort of “jeu” (R. Caillois).
Then “the sacred” (millennialism) could be distinguished from “jeu”(utopianism) in the Utopian mentality.
