In this paper the interrelation between some aspects of community that should be re-constructed and the patterns of life-structure are argued. Concretely, we regard "comfortableness of life" as an index that indicates the essence of the comfortable community for the inhabitants themselves. We then examine the characteristic points in patterns of life-structure relevant to “comfortableness of life”.
At first, we adopted eighteen items to grasp what every resident, in order to realize a comfortable community for himself, attaches importance to. The data were employed in a factor-analysis. From this procedure, we found four factors : “environment”, “facilities”, “institutions” and “local human relations”. In this paper, these factors are regarded as points of view that compose “comfortableness of life”.
As a result of the investigation of patterns of life-structure that attach importance to these factors, it is found that the “integrative-at home” pattern and the “independent-not at home” pattern attach importance to the “institutions”-factor, and patterns of “integrative-not at home”, “integrative-at home”, “peripheral-not at home”, “peripheral-at home” attach importance to the “local human relations”-factor.
A further investigation of these patterns shows that three characteristic points are relevant for these factors. Two characteristics : “activation of social networks” and “maintenance of locality-relevance”, are relevant to the “institutions”-factor, and one characteristic : “accumulation of active social networks in the locality” is relevant to the “local human relation” factor.
We can say that to attach importance to the “nstitutions”-factor is to attach importance to the self-realization aspect of community, and that the importance of the “local human relation” factor is relevant to the intimacy-aspect of community. In addition to that we found that patterns of life-structure that attach importance to these factors take a positive attitude towards communityreconstruction.
From the above results we can state that inhabitants, belonging to every pattern of life-structure that attaches importance to these two factors, possess the latent predilection and possibility to reconstruct self-realization and intimacy aspects of community.
