Abstract

We describe a new species of amphinomid polychaete, Linopherus littoralis sp. nov., from the sandy-mud beach of Kyushu, Seto Inland Sea, Japan. This new species is distinguishable from its congeners by indistinct eyes, an inconspicuous caruncle, and the presence of more than 33 pairs of branchiae, which start from chaetiger 3. A phylogenetic tree of Amphinomidae based on the sequences of four genes (cytochrome c oxidase subunit I, 16S rRNA, 18S rRNA, 28S rRNA) is also provided.
