Solid additives are widely used to change the mechanical properties of powder materials in many industries. In this paper, magnesium stearate was selected as a representative solid additive. The change in the tensile strength and in porosity of powder bed containing the additive was measured and evaluated by the new method of characterization proposed in one of our previous papers.
It was found by this method that magnesium stearate was different from colloidal silica in terms of the effect of solid additives on the mechanical properties of powder beds. Furthermore, the evaluated results were related to the theory of the tensile strength of powder beds.
