While risk studies essentially include aspects of social norms, there are still limited discussion and practical applications in integrations of scientific evidence and norms. We therefore held a special session to discuss risk analysis from viewpoints of values and norms. Three topics were introduced: (1) procedural fairness and public acceptance in environmental policy planning, (2) towards the establishment of normative risk analysis, and (3) value measure for trade-off between benefits and harms by cancer screening. A good citizen participation process including normative risk analyses and procedural fairness are expected to support individuals’ decisions along with their values and to find consensus among relevant people with different values.
