This paper studies an abnormal behavior in vibration cutting system. Our experiments show that chatter-like unstable phenomenon occurs in the vibration cutting system. The unstable phenomenon changes its vibration type when time is varied. The purpose of this study is to determine the cause of the unstable phenomenon by using a vibraion cutting model described by nonlinear differential equations. Our numerical simulation shows that our model can produce similar behavior to the unstable phenomenon, when the vibration tool's amplitude A is reduced and Gaussian noise is superposed on A. This result suggests that the unstable phenomenon is caused by small and noisy movement of the vibration tool.
