In this study, the techniques for fatigue strength improvement of weld roots between deck plates and trough ribs employing with peening away from the weld root or drilling of the web in cross beam were proposed. The effects on the fatigue strength improvement of the proposed techniques were clarified by bending fatigue tests. As the results of the fatigue tests, the peening from inside of the trough rib or the upside of the deck plates was effective for fatigue strength improvement. The techniques combined the peening from outside of the trough rib and the drilling of the web in cross beam did not improve the fatigue strength, while the combined techniques could prolong the crack propagation.
