1. Determination of quantities of Ca(HCO3)2 in sea water.
Schrötter method and Kali-bulb method both showed big variations between the figures obtained, while direct titration with N/50HCl indicated constant results denoting 1.28 millimol Ca (HCO3)2 per liter of sea water.
2. Decomposition by means of NaOH.
Complete decomposition was attained with 3.35 millimol of NaOH per liter of sea water, agitating for 2-2.5 hours, while with 3.90 millimol per liter of sea water, 1 hour of agitation was sufficient.
3. Decomposition by means of Ca(OH)2
Decomposition was completed with 3 millimol of Ca(OH)2 per liter of sea water agiting for 3 hours. while with 5 millimol per liter of sea water, 1 hour was sufficient.
