In order to discuss the effect of surface acidity of activated carbons on its affinity coefficient for organic vapors, 7 kinds of carbons of different characters were used as adsorbent and adsorption isotherms were determined for 10 organic vapors and water. The results were obtained as follows. Analysing the isotherm for water adsorption with Dubinin-Serpinski equation revealed that acidic sites of activated carbon acted as the primary adsorption site for polar adsorbate. Affinity coefficient β was found to increase with the amount of acidity of activated carbon surface. β value could be estimated by molar volume of the adsorbents and the acidity with in a relative error of 6.2%. We showed that the adsorption capacitities of acitivated carbons for organic vapors could be evaluated by using Dubinin-Radushkevich equation with its characteristics parameter, β and k.
