Abstract
Ten mongrel dogs were used for study of effects of hyperpotassemia on AV conduction, utilizing the direct perfusion technique of the AV node artery in situ. Infusion of potassium at the concentration about 7 to 9 mEq/liter for 1 to 3 minutes induced incomplete AV block, i.e., first and second degree AV blocks, and occasionally bigeminy. The infusion of potassium at the concentration more than 10 mEq/liter produced complete AV block, i.e., AV dissociation with ventricular tachysystoles and occasionally induced ventricular fibrillation.
