Histamine base (Grübler), given intravenously in a dose of 0.7 mgrm. per kilo of body weight, induced in rabbits always a moderate lowering in the blood sugar concentration, which lasted for a few hours. The whole amount to be applied was dissolved in 2 c. c. saline solution and injected in about 4-5 minutes.
This hypoglycaemic action became manifest in almost the same intensity in those rabbits, the suprarenal medulla of which were cauterized long before, as in the normal control; but when a few days were allowed to elapse after the last demedullation before the histamine administration, histamine, applied in the same dosage, caused a somewhat profound lowering in the blood sugar content, and about the same outcome was obtained when decapsulation was resorted to instead of demedullation and a few days later histamine was applied.
