Abstract
The present experiments were attempted to test the influence of the exhaustion from muscular work upon the epinephrine store in the suprarenal glands of rabbits.
Fifty seven rabbits were used. Observations were made in three groups of animals, that is, unilaterally splanchnicotomized, non-ex-ercised animals, and normal and unilaterally splanchnicotomized ani-mals which were exhausted from the muscular exercise. The animals were run by use of a revolving wheel with a uniform speed of revolution until they were completely exhausted. When exhausted, the animal was immediately killed by a blow on the neck. The epine-phrine content in the suprarenal glands was estimated by the colori-metrical method of Suto-Kojima. The epinephrine content in the suprarenal glands of the rabbits which were exhausted from the mus-cular work, showed hardly any difference from that obtainable in normal, non-exercised animals and irrespective of whether the gland was innervated normally or denervated.
