Apparently healthy mothers with milk negative to Arakawa's reaction with a more or less remarkable content of the methyl glyoxallike substance in their urine, were treated with vitamin-B admini-stration or with yakriton to intensify the effect of vitamin-B. They showed a decrease of the substance after a more or less long course of treatment. Arakawa's reaction showed an improvement in most cases. Those apparently “healthy” mothers were thus really in a state of avitaminosis-B.
