We examined Bial's reaction applied for estimation. of sialic acid in the cerebrospinal fluid samples, consisting in whole and protein-free cerebrospinal fluid and the protein in it. We concluded it was difficult to estimate sialic acid in the samples of whole and protein-free cerebrospinal fluids by this reaction.
We suppose the free or non-protein-bound sialic acid is inconstant and a large part of the sialic acid in the cerebrospinal fluid is in the protein-bound form.
