Abstract
1. When the inactivated serum together with the middle piece of the complement is made to unite with red blood corpuscles at cold temperatures autohemolysin contained in it may be freed in a hypertonic solution of grape sugar. When it is shaken in ether and subject to dialysis, it may be made in a pure state containing no protein.
2. We may accomplish the same purpose by using the activated serum. But the management is more complicated, and the hemolytic phenomenon may appear during the manipulation.
