Abstract
By applying the concept of critical salt concentration to the differentiation of polyanions, the alcianophilia of the cytoplasm of Paget cells was compar-ed with that of melanoma cell cytoplasm. Methylation, saponification, and hyaluronidase, sialidase, ribonuclease and desoxyribonuclease digestions were employed in a further attempt to identify histochemically various polyanions. The results suggest that the alcianophilia of the cytoplasm of Paget cells is mainly due to carboxyl group-containing polyanions, while that of melanoma cell cyto-plasm is related to nucleic acid.
