The recent developments in the U.S. and France of a new breed of personal road transportation service are studied, which utilizes the IT technologies and smart phone applications in particular to facilitate the efficient matching of a customer with a vehicle. Although regulatory bodies have been put in a delicate position, facing the harsh challenges from traditional taxi industries against some of the services, it should be noted that they make efforts to redefine regulations with a view to accommodating the innovation of the industry.
