Senri New Town, the first new town in Japan, took more than 50 years since construction. In order to grasp the spatial
structure of Senri New Town, we created a schematic diagram that is divided into free areas and incompetent areas. By
using this, it is clear that if you check the spatial change due to rebuilding, going to Senri New Town, public spaces like a
park, which is the spatial feature of Senri Newtown, are lost. In addition, from the questionnaire survey, it became clear
that the community residents were able to use the public space like a park and nurtured a unique living culture of Senri
Newtown.
In Senri Newtown, rebuilding of common housing “Danchi” is progressing a lot. They are not concerned about the town
and are planned with logic only within individual premises. However, it is important for our generation that renews the
existing town to inherit the cultural heritage cultivated by the predecessor to the next generation.
