It was found that in mice fed on a synthetic diet that the growth-stimulative effect of orotic acid was a little more marked when administered with L-methionine than when orotic acid (or L-methionine) alone was administered. Successive injections of orotic acid in combination with L-methionine induced reticulocyte crisis in rabbits.
