Whether INAH-N-oxide was reduced to INAH or not at the state of growth inhibition on Laciobacillus arabinosus was examined using the paper partition chromatography. It was assumed recently that antibacterial activity of Na-glucuronate isonicotinohydrazone is due to INAH, formed by hydrolysis in the medium. So Na-glucuronate isonicotinohydrazone was examined in the same manner with INAH-N-oxide. In these studies INAH-N-oxide was not reduced to INAH whereas Na-glucoronate isonicotinohydrazone was converted to INAH in the medium by hydrolysis. It was assumed from these results that the antibacterial activity of INAH derivatives is due to that the hydrazide group of INAH is free form or the substituted hydrazide group to form free hydrazide easily.
