Separation and detection of some vitamins in vitamin preparations by thin layer chromatography have been investigated. Vitamin A, D and E were successfully separated after alkali saponification, if necessary, using Aluminium oxid G as the chromatographic plate and chloroform as the solvent for development. In the case of separation of vitamin K compounds, Kieselgel G and chloroform were used as each purposes. Of the water-soluble vitamins, vitamin B_1,B_6,and nicotinamide were also successfully separated using Aluminum oxid G and glacial acetic acid・acetone・methanol・benzene (5 : 5 : 20 : 70) solvents system. For the separation of riboflavin, ascorbic acic and pantothenic acid, Kieselgel G was used instead of Aluminium oxid G, and for the separation of folic acid, glacial acetic acid・n-butanol・water (1 : 4 : 5) was used. After chromatographic separation, various color reagents and ultraviolet light were required to detect the different vitamins. With the method listed above vitamins in vitamin preparations can be detected in shorter time than with paper partition chromatography and others. But beause of their lower concentrations, vitamin B_<12> and biotin could not be identified by these procedures.
