A histopathological study has been made on the peripheral nervous tissue of pyridoxine deficient rats. In pyridoxine deficiency, neuron somas exhibited marked atrophic changes and degenerative changes such as fatty changes, decreasing of Nissl substance and disappearance of neurofibrils. Disruption of nerve cells was not so remarkable. In peripheral nerve fibers, marked degenerative changes and destruction of myeline sheath and then degenerative changes of axon were demonstrated. These changes were markedly encountered in preterminal regions. Degenerative change of end-plate was not remarkable.
