A practical process for the synthesis of pyridoxal 5-phosphate from pyridoxal via its hydrazone is described. Pyridoxal phosphate was prepared by phosphorylation of pyridoxal hydrazone, followed by diazotization and subsequent purification by ion exchange chromatography.
