Separation of fat soluble vitamins (A alcohol, 13-mono-cis A, A palmitate, anhydro-A, D_2 and E) was investigated by chromatography on hydroxyalkoxypropyl-Sephadex column with various solvent systems : 1) n-Hexane was shown to be a suitable solvent for separation of vitamins, especially vitamin A isomers (all trans and 13-mono-cisA). Furthermore, fatty acid esters of retinol could be separated from each other with methanol. 2) The relative retention volumes of the vitamins could be correlated with solubility parameters of the solvents. The vitamins were eluted with n-hexane in inverse order of their polarity, whereas with methanol in order of polarity. 3) Pretreatment of the gel with H_2 gas (100kg/cm^2) resulted in good recovery of the vitamins.
