Quinolinic acid is one of the metabolites from tryptophan to NAD. It has also been reported that quinolinic acid is hard to penetrate into the liver cells of rat in vitro experiment. Therefore, general concept of utilization of exogeneous quinolinic acid has been almost neglected. We examined efficiency of exogeneous quinolinic acid in rats fed a niacin free and tryptophan limited diet (Trp. cont. 0.043%) of 10% amino acids composition. The result indicated that the body weight ganins of rats fed a diet of 12.2 mg% quinolinic acid (3 times mol of 3 mg% nicotinic acid diet) were nearly the same with those given orally 3 mg% nicotinic acid were around one-third of those given intraperitoneally.
