This paper presents an example of the aft-part improvement by the wave pattern analysis method. Firstly, aft optimum sectional area curve is calculated by the method using wave pattern analysis, and then, the experiments for mathematical models are carried out to examine how this aft sectional area curve is effective in reducing wave resistance. Next, the influences of aft frame line shape and stern end part of ships on wave resistance are investigated experimentally, as well as self propulsion factors and form factor, which should be examined for the application to the practical hull form. As a resulf of examination, it is found that the present method is useful for the aft-part improvement with a reduction of wave resistance which is caused by the optimum sectional area curve having the puff-off at its aft end.
