The leg of JACK UP TYPE OIL RIG are designed to carry heavy load caused under several kinds of load conditions such as normal operation and transit. Especially chord pipes located at triangular tops to leg section are under severe load condition from pinion and wedge load. In this paper, we report the strength and manufacturing procedure of new type chord pipe with center plate developed by us this time. The main conclusion for our studies can be written as follows. 1) The new type chord pipe with center plate has enough strength for both pinion and wedge load. 2) The manufacturing procedure is simpler and dimensional accuracy after fabrication is better in comparison with those by usual practice. 3) We have succeeded to establish the welding technique for narrow working space including preheating and non-destructive inspection method.
