The benzyltriethylammonium bromide binds with rac-1,1′-binaphthalene-2,2′-diol through O–H···Br and C–H···O interactions. The bulky benzyltriethylammonium cation groups exhibit a strained anti arrangement in the void constructed by the self assembly of rac-1,1′-binaphthalene-2,2′-diol only. It crystallizes in monoclinic space group P21/n, with unit-cell parameters of; a = 10.8109(10)Å, b = 10.3081(10)Å, c = 25.2697(3)Å, α = 90°, β = 98.2242(3)°, γ = 90°, V = 2787.09(5)Å3, and Z = 4.
