Characteristics of Absorption Bands in Second Derivative Spectra

Abstract

In these days, derivative spectrophotometry by using the convolution operation is often used with the development of microprocesser-controlled spectrophotometer. This article deals with the relationship between (characteristics of) derivative band and data-processing span on the convolution operation. operation. Distortion errors for main bands and satellite bands in second derivative curves were computed by use of Gaussian and Lorentzian curves as models of absorption spectra. These results were compared with some experimental absorption spectra of amino acids.
