Abstract
Eleven new sulfur- or halogen-containing local anesthetics were prepared. They were alkamine esters or amidines of amino-, hydroxy-, or bromo-mercaptobenzoic acids. Eight. of these were found to be as effective as or slightly better than cocaine on rabbit cornea. Antibacterial action of the sulfa drugs against Staphylococcus or Escherichia coli is not antagonized by these anesthetics.
