Rate of free and collective sedimentation of powdered pharmaceutics in aqueous solution of methylcellulose and sodium methylcellulose was examined. Sedimentation velocity of granules was calculated from the Stoke's formula for free sedimentation and the value was compared with specific sedimentation volume. It was thereby learned that the aqueous soution of sodium carboxymethylcellulose and methylcellulose had great efficiency to disperse granules.
Sedimentation velocity of a suspension that undergoes collective sedimentation was found to be expressed by a definite curve, as indicated in Eq. 2, by the use of a dimensionless number, irrespective of the kind of granules present or the degree of flocculation.
