An intermediate product of the degradative reaction of chlorothiazide (I) in acid solution was isolated. The chemical structure of this product was clarified as 5-chloro-2, 4-disulfamoylformanilide (IV). In pH 2.4 phosphate buffer, the conversion of chlorothiazide (I) to 4-amino-6-chloro-m-benezenedisulfonamide (III) was represented as the consecutive reactions in the following scheme : [numerical formula]
