Autoxidation of D-glucose to D-gluconic acid was examined in heterogeneous liquid phase at 40°, in the presence of Pd-BaSO4 catalyst. The reaction was carried out using continuously stirred tank reactor, semi-batch reactor, and multi-stage contactor of gas-liquid counterflow type. Based on the rate equation of reaction and the equation of decrease of catalyst activity presented in this article, mass balance equation for D-glucose was obtained in steady state at n-th stage of multi-stage contactor, as follows : [numerical formula] The values calculated from this equation agreed well with experimental results.
