A photochemical reaction of cyclohexanone (I) was tried in the presence of chloroacetone or hydrogen chloride. The product, C12H18O b. p88 156∼163°, coincided with 2-(1-cyclohexenyl) cyclohexanone (II). Similarly, 2-methyl-(V), 3-methyl-(VI), and 4-methylcyclohexanone (VII) respectively gave 2-methyl-6-(2-methyl-1-cyclohexenyl) cyclohexanone (VIII), 5-methyl-2-(5-methyl-1-cyclohexenyl) cyclohexanone (IX) and 4-methyl-2-(4-methyl-1-cyclohexenyl) cyclohexanone (X) by UV-illumination in the presence of HCl. Their structures were discussed from NMR and mass spectra.
