Abstract
Heating of 1-cyclohexyl-5-(3-hydroxybutyl)-perhydropyrimidine-2, 3, 4-trione (II) in methanol, in hydrochloric acidity, results in facile liberation of one mole of water to form a high-melting compound (III), mp 287°, which was assumed to be 3-cyclohexyl-7-methyl-1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7-hexahydro-5H-pyrano [2, 3-d] pyrimidine-2, 4-dione (IIIa) from its infrared and ultraviolet spectra, and pKa value. The foregoing dehydrative cyclization reaction was used to synthesize and series of related compounds and some examinations were made on the chemical structure of these substances.
