The relationship between blood groups and some infections like norovirus, cholera, and malaria has been reported. Given the importance of brucellosis and the failure to address this issue in the case of brucellosis, in this study we examined the relationship between blood groups and brucellosis. In this case-control study, 100 patients with brucellosis and 200 healthy individuals were studied in terms of blood groups. Exclusion criteria for the control group consisted of positive Coombs Wright or the history of brucellosis. Chi-square test was used to compare qualitative variables between the two groups. Then the variables which met inclusion criteria for the regression model were entered into the logistic regression model. Among patients, 43% were female, 57% male, 27% were urban and 73% rural. Regression analysis showed that the chance of people with blood group AB for being infected with brucellosis was 6.26 times more than those with blood group O (p<0.001), however Rh type was not associated with being infected with brucellosis. There is a relationship between blood group and brucellosis disease. People with blood group AB are susceptible to brucellosis, but no difference was observed in being infected with brucellosis in terms of blood Rh type.
