In 1928 Dr. T. Ishii made an official tour of the island of Java and, during his stay there he purchased nine specimens of scorpions and whip-scorpions from a native near the front gate of the Buitenzorg botanical garden. These specimens are now preserved in the division of Entomology in the National Agriculture Research Institute, Tokyo.
Recently, I was fortunate enough to have an opportuniy of examining and identifying them and found that they belong to Thelyphonus caudatns (Linné) and Heterametrus cyaneus (C. L. Koch).
As to the first species, based on a female specimen brought back from Java by Dr. K. Morishita, I described it fairly fully in 1943. As'there has been no' contribution on the second species among the Japanese literature, 1 then described it in some length, pointing out the specific affinity between it and Heterometrus I. longirnanus (Herbst); specimens of H. I. longimanus are commonly preserved in various museums and institutes in Japan.
In order to facilitate the effort of future workers I have, here, prepared a list and key to all the Javanese genera and species of scorpions known to the present date.
