JOURNAL FREE ACCESSLow-molecular-weight carbohydrates accumulated in Pardosa astrigera were identified and seasonal changes in the contents were correlated with the change in cold tolerance. The overwintering nymphs accumulated a high concentration of glycerol together with a small amount of myo-inositol. The accumulation of such molecules was at least in part associated with the acquisition of chilling tolerance but not with the depression of the supercooling point.View full abstractDownload PDF (169K)

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSNew distribution records of populations of the Latrodectus geometricus Koch 1841 (Araneae: Theridiidae) from Gujarat in India is recorded. Information on its behaviour in captivity, diet and habitat preference is also provided. JOURNAL FREE ACCESSUp to the present, four Hahnia species are known from Japan: H. corticicola, H. martialis, H. nava and H. pinicola. Further two species are newly recognized in Japan. One is new to science, described as Hahnia tanikawai sp. nov. The other, H. thorntoni is newly recorded from Japan. JOURNAL FREE ACCESSA new species of Cyrtophora is described on the basis of specimens collected from Trang Province, Thailand, under the name of Cyrtophora sextuberculata n. sp. This species can be distinguished from other congeners by the elongated abdomen having three pairs of tubercles. The shape of epigyne of this species resembles that of C. crassipes (Rainbow 1897), but the abdomen of the latter has only a pair of dorsal tubercles and bifurcated posterior end.
