As far as the dental compensation with skeletal Class III jaw relationship is concerned, researches were carried out on the basis of the lateral cephalograms. However, it is often observed that cases with antero-posterior disharmony also have disharmony of the width of the dental arch. So we think that the dental compensation should not be investigated only by upper and lower incisor but also the lateral teeth. Especially, because canine is the place where curve of the dental arch is most strong, compensatory changes are considered to vary. In the present study dental compensation in treated cases with skeletal Class III jaw relationship was investigated both by model and cephalometric analysis. 1. When compared to Class I molar relationship cases, Class in molar relationship cases showed lingual inclination of lower incisor and distal inclination of lower canine in relation to the occlusal plane. Furthermore, in Class III molar relationship cases either labial inclination of upper canine or lingual inclination of lower canine was observed. 2. As the jaw relationship became worse, occlusal plane became flatter in Class I molar relationship group. But flattening of occlusal plane wasn't enough in Class III molar relationship group. So there was antero-posterior disharmony of upper and lower dental arch. 3. From the above, finally it can be concluded that the position of canine and the inclination of occlusal plane in the establishment of occlusion is an important parameter for diagnosis as well as treatment is concerned.

Many statistical investigations confirm the low incidence of congenital missing of incisors and first molars. We encountered in familial congenital missing of many teeth including first molars in four cases (father, son, and two daughters) accompanied without congenital ectodermal dysplasia. All cases were examined by X-ray cephalometric analysis and cast model analysis. The findings were as follows : 1) [table] 2) In these cases, there were no characteristic features regarding the shapes of the erupted teeth and mesiodistal diameters of the crown, and dental arch forms. 3) In maxillofacial morphology, it was suggested that the congenital missing of molars was related with antero-posterior underdevelopmennt of an upper jaw, the small posterior facial height and an wide gonial angle, though these cases were exhibited blood relation.

The purpose of this study was to investigate how women in general realize their own faces using the self-portraits and filling out the questionnaire. The selected subjects were 20 females aged from 18 to 24 years old who did not undergo any orthodontic treatment and are not dental students nor have any relation to dental business. 1. Two items related to the profile on the overall impression of their faces and the items related to nose, eyelid, forehead, cheek, teeth, and occlusion on the visual impression of their facial parts indicated high scores for dissatisfaction in the questionnaire. 2. The overall impression of the facial frontal view, the balance among the different facial portions, the mouth and its surrounding region showed high score for the awareness of the whole face. As to the awareness of the facial portions, teeth, dentition, nose, and the postero-inferior border of the jaw indicated high score. 3. Many subjects selected their frontal photos in the questionnaire requesting to choose one showing their unsatisfactory items. And many subjects choose their oblique photos as the satisfactory items. 4. 75% of the subjects selected their oblique pictures on requesting to choose one which they like best. 5. The position of lips in relation to the E-line showed 0.6mm posterior for the upper lip and 1.15mm anterior for the lower, respectively. Among the four lateral silhouettesCoriginal profile and three profiles which changed lips' position), 45.5% of subjects selected their original profiles when they were asked to choose which ones belong to them. From the present study, it can be concluded that females are capable to realize their own faces in the various directions. But only few people are concern about their profiles in their daily lives.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the behavioral and mental factors, and TMD signs and/or symptoms in orthodontic patients. A total of 208 orthodontic patients (68 males, 140 females, mean age : 23.6 years old) were selected as the subjects, and were divided into 3 groups ; NS group was 59 patients with no TMD symptoms, SNT group was 98 patients with TMD symptoms who haven't received TMD therapy, and ST group was 51 patients with TMD symptoms and have received TMD therapy. Further, the follow-up study was carried out excluding surgical cases in 93 patients (NS : 17, SNT : 47, ST : 29), and it was compared with the previous questionnaire survey. The results were as follows ; 1. The incidence of patients in SNT increased with age and that in NS decreased. ST did not change with age. 2. The prevalence of patients who had the history of three symptoms was 48.0% in SNT and 90.2% in ST. 3. Following the follow-up study, overall condition of TMD didn't become worse in 3 groups. But in most of SNT groups, TMD sounds still remained. 4. The questionnaire survey suggested that in SNT and ST groups, there was a relationship between TMD symptoms and mastication of big and hard food, unilateral chewing, grinding, clenching, resting one's cheek on one's hand, abnormal sleeping position, and insecurity and anxiety.
