Since its birth in November, 1984, JSET has been a major academic society in the research and practice of technology in education, including theories of instruction and learning. As of July 2017, the number of its members is growing and about to reach 3,000. The educational technology addressed by JSET is an interdisciplinary area integrating the humanities, social sciences, science and engineering, as well as other human-related disciplines. The scope of educational technology research changes along with the times. JSET members receive copies of the Japanese version of the Educational Technology Research Journal (published five times a year, including a volume also containing brief reports on experiments and research results or the development of educational systems) as well as an English version (published once a year). Awards are presented for outstanding research.
