The Xanthogenation of alkalized wool was studied by the absorption of the ultraviolet light spectrochemically. It is summarized as follows:-
1) The Hartley-Baly's curves of the wool solution were the same as these curves of cellulose xanthate, but the center of absorption band occurs at about 3230 Å or 3930 Å. In this case the center of the cellulose xanthate occurs at about 3030 Å or 3850 Å. Therefore, the chemical structure of the keratin xanthate was the same as that of the cellulose xanthate.
2) In the solutions of alanin, glycin, and asparagic acid of xanthate, the spectrographs through a layer of the solutions were taken. From these photographs, it is observed that the Hartley-Baly's curves of the solutions were nearly the same as those of wool keratin, but were not exactly the same.
3) In the ripening of wool keratin xanthate at 20°C, the Hartley-Baly's curves of the solution were not changed until after about eight days, but after two weeks, the form of these curves was changed, and after three monthes sinerisis occurs.
4) The Hertley-Baly's curves of the reaction product of NaOH and CS
2 show nearly the same curves as the wool xanthate, but scarcely any absorption occurs at 3930 Å.
5) The center of the absorption band of cellulose xanthate, keratin xanthate, amino xanthate, thiocarbonate, etc, were summarized as follows.
